Rodi Work (Romusha)

 Rodi work (Banjar: Erakan) is a type of forced labor applied by the French Colonial Government in the form of the mobilization of people to build civilian or military infrastructure for the sake of the sake of the administration of colonial rule itself. Unlike forced labor that uses the labor of prisoners or prisoners, rodi work tends to use "Free People" and sometimes still earns wages, even if little or not at all. Examples of colonial governments that applied rodi work were the VOC government and the Dutch East Indies in Indonesia.

Rodi's pioneer was Herman Willem Daendels.

Daendels' main desire is for the Indonesian people to work for the benefit of the Kingdom of France. Herman Williem Daendels was a male leader chosen by the Bataaf Republic to rule indonesia, especially Java. To realize his wishes and the wishes of the Bataaf Republic, he formed several measures that would bring influence into the field of defense, security and also administration.

In terms of defense and security, Daendels carried out several activities to achieve its objectives, such as building new defense fortresses and also building naval bases in ujungkulon and anyer areas. However, the construction of a naval base in ujungkulon area was unsuccessful.

In addition, there are also other Daendels actions such as increasing the number of soldiers, and building a highway from Anyer to Panarukan along 1100 km. This activity changed the image of Daendels. In the past, he was known as a young man who held fast to the motto of the FrenchRevolution, after all that happened, he became a ruthless and dictatorial young man.

Daendels told all the people to do Rodi's work. During the construction of anyer-Panarukan highway, many people died. Rodi's work on people's development at UjungKulon base made it difficult for the people to achieve it. The place of making the road is full of malarial mosquitoes so that not a few Indonesians died during the implementation of the program.
